A world-class passenger terminal has opened at North Harbor, Manila, replacing the rundown, disorderly waiting area travelers have used for years.

The sprawling North Port Passenger Terminal Complex is considered the country’s most modern facility of its kind, designed for comfort and efficiency by Manila North Harbour Port Inc. (MNHPI). Located at Pier 4, the 12,000-square meter complex can process about two million passengers a year in air-conditioned, lounge-style interiors.

It offers comfortable seating, wide food selections, ample parking spaces, a prayer room; a play room; nursing and diaper-change rooms; a clinic; and a waiting area with a panoramic view of Manila Bay, among other features.

The overall design takes into account the Filipino practice of having big sendoff or welcoming crowds for travelers. “Building this new facility of international standards is a distinct honor for us at MNHPI. It is a much-awaited port infrastructure our countrymen truly deserve. We were most inspired to realize for our nation this dream terminal,” said Dr. Michael L. Romero, MNHPI chair.

Chief executive officer Richard D. Barclay said the facility started serving passengers after the soft launch in the second quarter of the year. Formally opened on Wednesday, the complex is part of the modernization program for Manila North Harbor under the Philippine Ports Authority.
