Weekend shootings claim 3 in Cebu city

THREE people died in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City over the weekend. An 18-year-old third year high school student was shot dead in barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City past 4 p.m. Sunday.

Benjun Perez was attending a party with his uncle, Brent Perez, when he was shot. He sustained a gunshot wound in the head and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center. His attacker was only identified as a certain Abaloco.

In barangay Tejero, Cebu City, a certain Ken Fuesca was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while walking at the roadside. Several spent shells of a .45 caliber handgun were found in the crime scene.

Man doing laundry shot dead

A 58-year-old man was shot dead Sunday evening in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Victim Jose Junie Mapait died on the spot due to three gunshot wounds in his chest. The unidentified gunman reportedly used a .45 caliber pistol to shoot Mapait.

The victim’s wife told the police that Mapait was washing clothes at the back of their house when the attack happened.

Police are still investigating to identify the assailant and establish the motive of the attack. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza

Woman robbed, stabbed

TWO motorcycle-riding men robbed and stabbed an employee of a pharmacy yesterday morning.

Jovencia Walog, a messenger of Pro Sel Pharm in Capitol Site was walking along Jasmin Street when the robbers struck. She was on her way to deposit P22,500 in a bank. She sustained stab wounds in her right arm and chest and is confined in an undisclosed hospital.

Theft and Robbery Section investigator SPO1 Jaime Toring said Walog ignored the robbers thinking it was a prank pulled by her fellow workers. But one of the assailants poked a gun on her head and even pulled the trigger when she tried to fight back. When the gun did not go off, they stabbed her and run away with the bag that contained the cash. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
