Masiao ‘financier’, ex-cop, 9 others arrested

Eleven people including a dismissed Cebu City policeman were arrested in a police operation against illegal gambling in barangay Pasil last Sunday evening.

Operatives of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID and the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) raided the houses of Randy Boliboli and Richie Boliboli by virtue of a search warrant issued by by Judge Raphael Yrastorza, Jr. of the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 14.

Supt. Rex Derillo of RSOG said that Randy is considered as one of the biggest financiers of masiao, an illegal numbers game in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Richie remains at large after police failed to find him in his house.

Former policeman Angel Saavedra, 50, was arrested for illegal possession of firearm. An unlicensed .45 caliber pistol was seized from the former member of the Cebu City Police Office.

Also arrested were Jose Fernandez, Butchie Lendio, Rush Cabaltera, Richard Garcia, Reynaldo Santos, Edward Abejo, Joseph Dahuya, Renadel Calinawan and Betty Saavedra.

Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, chief of staff of the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) said that those arrested were allegedly caught in the act of gambling at around 11 p.m. Sunday. Illegal gambling paraphernalia estimated to be worth P150,000 were also seized from the suspects.
