Olongapo declares state of calamity

MANILA, Philippines – The city of Olongapo was placed under a state of calamity Monday due to floods triggered by incessant rains since Sunday evening.

“We are experiencing the highest flooding in the history of Olongapo. The city council declared a state of calamity through phone. Unanimous decision,” Councilor Winnie Ortiz posted on her Facebook account.

In a report by a community news site Subic Times, it said that Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino had asked the help of the US Navy personnel currently stationed in Subic to help in the relief and rescue operation in the city.

It reported that low-lying villages and some parts of the city experienced floods up to six feet deep.
