Lancers, Cobras face off today

6:45 p.m. – UV vs. SWU (Srs.)

THE University of the Visayas Green Lancers hope that the third time will be the charm as they battle their arch-nemesis, the Southwestern University Cobras today in the semifinals of the 13th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Today’s match-up is the third time that these bitter rivals have faced off this season. So far, SWU has owned UV, winning both match-ups, 70-66, in the elimination round and 68-64 in the first round of the semis.

Much pride and honor will be at stake in this game with both teams having locked up berths in the finals with their dominant showing in the double round-robin semis.

SWU and UV are ranked 1-2 in this round with the former toting a perfect 4-0 (win-loss) mark while the latter is not far behind at 3-1. The top two teams at the end of this round will compete for the title in a best-of-five series.

In the first game, the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars gun for their first win when they battle the University of San Carlos Warriors.

USJ-R’s offense has sputtered in their last two games, failing to reach the 50-point mark against both SWU and UV. USC meanwhile, aims to bounce back from their 61-64 loss to the Lancers the other day. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
