Church raises P500,000 for flood victims

SAN PEDRO, Laguna—The diocese of San Pablo in Laguna   has raised about P500,000 in cash as donations for victims of last month’s floods spawned by the southwest monsoon.

Rowena Valdellon, the diocese’s Social Action Center (SAC) officer, said that as of Friday, Sept. 6, Catholic parishes and churches around Laguna have collected about P300,000 for the flood victims and another P200,000 from other sources like  Quiapo Church in Manila, Canossa College of San Pablo City and other anonymous sources.

The Knights of Columbus  Luzon and Laguna chapters have also distributed at least

1,200 packages of food stuff.

Aug. 31 were from the worst-hit areas of San Pedro and the cities of Biñan and Sta. Rosa, according to Restituto Ramos, the grand knight of San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish.
