USC president to athletes, officials: Train harder, don’t rest on our laurels

REACHING the top doesn’t mean a team should be complacent.

This is what University of San Carlos (USC) president Fr. Dionisio Miranda said during a courtesy call with athletes and some team officials at the USC main campus.

The USC-Basic Education Department is fresh from completing a historic feat when it won both the elementary and secondary titles in the recent Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals held in different venues last month.

Miranda said he was proud of what the USC-BED athletes have achieved, especially after finally dethroning the powerhouse University of Cebu (UC) in the secondary division of the annual multi-sporting meet.

“I’m very proud of them,” Miranda said. “I am sensing more victories to come from this hardworking team.”

But Miranda said that instead of resting on its laurels, USC-BED should continue to train harder to become better, especially that the Warriors will make up the core lineup of Team Visayas that will be competing in the Milo Little Olympics National Finals here in Cebu on October.

“They have to strive harder and work harder as a team so that they will be able to achieve greater victories. They have to keep on their minds that hard work truly pays off,” Miranda added.

As he continued with his speech, Miranda also reminded the Warriors to remain humble no matter what. “It is very important that we foster sportsmanship all the time, that we be humble in victory and gracious and noble in defeat,” said Miranda, who apologized for the late courtesy call due to his hectic schedule.
