Firm says it’s ready to bring more power to Bicol region

NAGA CITY—The National Grid Corp of the Philippines (NGCP) has announced it is now ready to take on the growing demand for energy in the Bicol region after completing the expansion of the Naga City substation.

The announcement was released by the NGCP on Friday, weeks after the city and surrounding municipalities experienced several days of whole day power outages to give way to the operation.

A statement released by NGCP spokesperson, lawyer Cynthia Perez-Alabanza, said NGCP has completed the installation of a 100-megavolt-ampere (MVA) transformer, nine 230-kilovolt (kV) and three 69-kV power circuit breakers and related equipment at the Naga substation.

The expansion is part of the Luzon Substation Project 1, which will reinforce substation capacity in Luzon, particularly those in Bantay, Bauang in La Union; Cabanatuan City; Cruz na Daan in Bulacan; Laoag, Ilocos Norte; and Biñan in Laguna.

She said the project, which cost P703.49 million, is expected to increase the capacity of the substation and add to its current 100-MVA transformer.
