MTCC judges seek supplies; will Capitol give allowances too?

09:16 AM July 25, 2013

JUDGES of the Municipal Trial Courts in the Cities (MTCC) yesterday talked to Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III about extending material assistance to them and their clerks of court.
“We only said that Regional Trial Court (RTC) judges have allowances (from the Capitol) while MTCC judges don’t. If they have the budget, they can study it, maybe we can get it too. We also handle some cases from the province,” MTCC Executive Judge Francisco Seville said after the judges’ courtesy call.
He said it was the MTCC clerk of courts who submitted a letter asking for allowances like their counterparts in the RTC. Seville said they would appreciate it if the governor would help provide them supplies, equipment and a room to house MTCC records. Courts are administered by the Supreme Court and have a separate budget from the national government.
Several RTC judges have written to the governor asking him to retain the monthly P12,000 allowance they receive from the provincial government. But in a courtesy call two weeks ago, Gov. Hilario Davide III told them the Capitol was tightening its belt and would have to review the arrangement./Correspondent Apple Ta-as
