100k run caps third leg of CUC ultra marathon
A grueling 100-kilometer run will highlight the three-part series of the Cebu Ultra Runners Club (CUC) out-of-town ultra marathon which will start in Tabuelan town, western Cebu and end at the Family Park in Talamban, Cebu City this Saturday.
A total of 204 ultra runners have accepted the challenge of CUC’s final leg. The series have visited Cebu’s country side for the past months.
According to race organizer, Tony Galon of CUC, the final leg will be the toughest and the most grueling run since competing runners will be traversing Cebu’s highlands, particularly, the Trans-central highway in Balamban.
“The first 50k will be flat but after they pass through Tabuelan, they will slowly go up to the Trans-central Highway where the hardest part of the run begins,” said Galon.
Galon also added that the concluding leg will also mark the anticipated showdown between leg one champion Jeter Bada against leg two first placer Andy Tuñacao to determine who among them is really Cebu’s toughest ultra runner although he did not discount the possibility that a new winner will emerge.
Meanwhile, finishers of the three-leg series will also be rewarded as Galon and the organizing CUC has prepared a specially designed plaque to be awarded to ultra runners who have completed the three-leg series aside from the usual finishers medal.
As a sign of support and enthusiasm, Tabuelan town Mayor Rex Gerona will be joining the run according to Galon. The race will kick off at six in the evening in Tabuelan and will have its cut off at 2 the afternoon the following day. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
