MANILA, Philippines—The Departments of Education and Science and Technology said Friday they are are set to distribute mosquito traps to both public and private schools around Metro Manila to arrest a surge in the incidence of dengue in Metro Manila.

Officials said at a press conference Friday morning that almost 35,000 mosquito traps designed by the Department of Science and Technology would be distributed to some 17,500 classrooms in areas of highest dengue incidence.

These areas include schools in the cities of Caloocan, Quezon, Pasay, Valenzuela, Manila, Muntinlupa and Pasig.

The government will next distribute some 46,500 mosquito traps to dengue-afflicted provinces in the coming months, among them Ilocos Sur, Benguet, La Union and Pangasinan, the officials said.
