Cayetano to develop Laguna de Bay lakeshore into tourist destination

Given a fresh mandate, reelected Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano on Sunday said she was geared toward establishing a more vibrant business environment in Taguig City, particularly turning its lakeshore along Laguna de Bay into a tourist attraction in the next three years.

The 31-year-old lady mayor, accompanied by her husband, reelected Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, was sworn in by outgoing Sen. Manny Villar at the NBC Tent in Taguig City.

Admitting that winning a second term was not easy as she and her team had to endure the mudslinging and accusations hurled by her opponents, Cayetano said all her plans to improve the city services on health and education had been laid out.

In the last elections, Cayetano and her runningmate Ricardo Cruz won the two-way fight with Rica Tiñga, sister of former Taguig Mayor Freddie Tiñga, with a margin of about 50,000 votes.

Jogging, water sports

Asked about her projects, Cayetano revealed the local government’s plan to do a facelift of the city’s 8-kilometer shoreline along Laguna de Bay.

The “lakeshore development” will cover four barangays (villages) along C6 Road: Lower Bicutan, San Miguel, Hagonoy and Napindan.

“We are excited to see the lakeshore development plan. The lakeshore is an area of Taguig that is not given much attention because the people are more drawn to Bonifacio Global City, but we have a beautiful lakeshore,” Cayetano said.

Cayetano said the lakeside of Laguna de Bay would be transformed into a place for jogging, parks and water sports. The city government also plans to set up a brisk seafood trading post along the lakeshore.

“We want to liven up tourism in Taguig to give more jobs to the residents of Taguig,” she said.

City officials could not provide further details since the plan is still in the works.
