Groups learn emergency response through competition

GROUPS involved in the safety and security and emergency response at the West Cebu Industrial Park (WCIP) and its neighboring areas in Balamban town, southwest Cebu have conceptualized an easy way of learning technical skills related to safety and security: fun through competitions.

The 3rd WCIP Safety and Security Council Emergency Response Team Competition brought together representatives of the different locator-companies at the zone, representatives of a local cooperative and barangay personnel to demonstrate their skills in emergency response action.

The contest consisted of four events  – busted hose replacement with ladder event, fire extinguisher relay, first aid and rescue relay and bucket relay.

Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu), Inc. emerged the champion.

In second place was the Don Bosco Network Multipurpose Cooperative, Barangay Prenza and Cebu Industrial Park Developers, Inc. (CIPDI)-AboitizLand.

The competition was also participated in by K & A Metal Industries, Metaphil International, SS7 Security Services, RMD Diamond Marine Services, Don Bosco Balamban Technological Center, Glocal (Cebu) and J-Cledd Philippines.

Organized in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross, Balamban Fire Department and Mactan Economic Zone Safety and Security Council, the competition was held with the theme, “Sunog at Sakuna Paghandaan, Kalikasan ay Pangalagaan nang Matamasa ang Pag-unlad ng Bayan.”

The event allowed service providers, employees and residents of the barangays surrounding the WCIP to familiarize themselves with possible crisis situations and how best to respond to these.
