Out-of-school youth gain employment opportunities
Twenty-eight out-of-school youths in barangay Colon, Naga City, Cebu now have better employment opportunities after completing the Pipe-Fitting Fabrication course sponsored by Kepco SPC power company.
Two of them have been hired already for overseas jobs while another one is just waiting for his working visa abroad.
They are the third batch of beneficiaries under Kepco’s skills development training program.
The first two batches underwent trainings on welding fabrication and food preparation and preservation.
Kepco’s community outreach program, in partnership with the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education (DepEd), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) and the local government units, seeks to promote literacy and livelihood among the out-of-school youths and adults in barangay Colon who have not finished their formal schooling in order for them to become productive members of society.
Barangay Colon hosts Kepco SPC’s 200-megawatt power plant.
Geronimo Barcilla, Tesda trainor, said the 28 new graduates have a high chance of getting hired locally and abroad skills training on technical and vocational courses provides the beneficiaries a good future for employment because the courses are now the ones in demand locally and abroad.
