Mexican Aaron “La Hoya (Jewel)” Herrera seems confident of his chances against reigning WBO International light welterweight champion Jason “El Niño” Pagara in the 20th edition of Pinoy Pride Series dubbed “Laban Kung Laban” this Saturday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

During a press conference yesterday at the Formo Restaurant and Lounge at the Banilad Town Center, Herrera said he is well prepared for his first fight outside of Mexico.

“It was a very long trip to get here to the Philippines so I have to win this fight,” said Herrera, who was accompanied by trainer Roman Acosta Chan. “I came here prepared and in good condition.”

And when asked about his opponent, Herrera had this to say: “He is nothing to be excited about.”

Herrera, a former WBC Mundo Hispano Lightweight champion, holds a 25-1 (win-loss) record with 17 knockouts. Pagara has a 30-2 record with 19 wins by KO.

“This will be a good fight. I know what kind of style he (Pagara) uses inside the ring. In my side, I am using the Mexican style of fighting, no holds barred. I am capable of using both my hands. I will win either way if it’s a knockout or decision,” added Herrera, who said he already reviewed Pagara’s tapes and already has plans on how to defeat the latter.

Herrera is a native of Yucatan, Mexico and spent almost six months in training.   Pagara is on a three-fight winning streak with all coming via knockouts.

Both fighters will meet for the first time tomorrow during the final press conference of the fight card to be held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
