20 visually-impaired therapists take oath

TWENTY visually-impaired therapists who passed the recent licensure examination for massage therapy took their oath administered by the Department of Health’s Committee of Examiners for Massage Therapy (CEMT).

Olymer Adiva, 24, who ranked third in the nationwide examination, said “Wala jud ko nag-expect nga ma-third place pero nag-ampo ko ug maayu nga makapasar ko ug ang uban nakung mga classmate nga mga visually impaired (I didn’t expect to be in the third place but I prayed that I will pass the examination together with my other visually-impaired classmates),” Adiva said.

Kenneth Ronquillo, chairman of the CEMT, lauded DSWD’s role as partner in helping the people with disability (PWD).

Ronquillo said it is necessary to prepare the therapists both in knowledge and skills.

Presidential Decree 856 mandates that massage therapists must first acquire a certification issued by the DOH before practicing and applying their skills.

The 20 visually-impaired therapists took their massage therapy course at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center in barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
