Port worker pinned to death

IT WAS a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

A wayward trailer truck rammed into a container van, pinning to death a port checker at the Cebu International Port (CIP) yesterday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Edgar Soriano, whose body was found sandwiched by two container vans.

Police said Soriano was standing in between rows of container vans when a trailer truck driven by a certain Bobby rammed into a container van.

The impact pushed the container towards the direction where Soriano was standing causing the victim to get pinned.

The driver of the trailer truck fled after the incident.

Chief Insp. Ryan Devaras, chief of the Mabolo police precinct, said they are coordinating with the company which runs the container yard to locate the whereabouts of Bobby.

The victim was already dead when paramedics from the Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) brought him to the Chong Hua Hospital./Correspondent Peter L. Romanillos
