NBP inmate runs amuck, shot dead by jail guard
MANILA, Philippines—An inmate from the New Bilibid Prisons was killed Thursday afternoon after he was shot by a jail guard.
Retired General and Bureau of Corrections Chief Franklin Bucayo identified the inmate as Lauro Lumapas based on the report submitted to him by NBP Supervisor Fajardo Lansangan.
Bucayo said the incident occurred between 12 noon and 1pm when Lumapas was to be transferred from inmate dormitory to a disciplinary cell for his rowdy behavior.
He said Lumapas ran amok wounding two jail guards after he stabbed them.
Other jail guards came for assistance. He tried to fight back but was shot in the process, Bucayo said.
He added that it is still not clear how he got hold of a knife.
