MANILA, Philippines—The tail-end of a cold front is prevailing over extreme northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies and rains over the Batanes and Calayan islands and the province of Cagayan, the weather bureau said Saturday.

These areas will have light to moderate showers and thunderstorms, according to a Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) bulletin.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said, will be partly cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The weather bureau defined the tail-end of a cold front as the leading edge of two air masses that is usually found in the mid-latitudes. It generally brings rainfall and cloudiness over affected areas.

In its outlook for Sunday, Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over northern Luzon where coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate from the northeast with slight to moderate seas, it added.

Pagasa also issued a special weather advisory for Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley, the two provinces heaviest hit by Typhoon “Pablo” last December.

Both provinces will be cloudy with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, the weather bureau said.
