One killed, 30 hurt as bus falls from bridge in Antique
MANILA, Philippines—A man was killed, while over 30 people were injured when their bus fell from a bridge in Antique early Friday, police said.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Region 6 police director, said a Ceres bus (UVN 727) carrying 45 passengers fell from the Calaugan Bridge along Poblacion Tibiao, in Antique around 5:30 a.m.
“Kurbada kasi itong daan tapos medyo mabilis daw itong bus kaya baka hindi na control,” Police Officer 2 Roberto Domingo of Tibiao police station said in a separate phone interview, noting that the bus was on its way to Iloilo from Manila.
He said the bus, driven by Romel Bandula, fell up to six meters deep from the road, resulting in the death of Mariano Geriane, 60, of Dasmarinas, Cavite and injuring 37 others.
But of the total injuries, Domingo said only one was considered major and the victim was rushed to the hospital.
Geriane, who was unhurt, has been placed under police custody.
