‘Jack Sparrow’, fisherman nabbed

Two fishermen were arrested for the death of a Lapu-Lapu City Assessor’s Office worker who was hacked in the nape in her home in barangay Suba-Basbas.

Richard Amodia, 22, admitted to the police that he was the one who robbed and killed his aunt Flora Amodia, 55.

Mario Ariel Cullo, alias “Jack Sparrow”, said his only participation in the crime was selling jewelry owned by the victim.

Cullo, 42, said it was Richard who asked him to sell the jewelry but he was unaware that they were stolen items.

Flora was found dead in her house by her elder sister Rosario Pogoy at 8 a.m. last Monday.

Pogoy later discovered that her sister’s jewelry and watches were missing.

SPO1 Allan Pantaleon, homicide investigator, said they suspected that the victim was killed because she knew the suspect.

Police first arrested Cullo around 7 p.m. after they learned that he had sold jewelry to someone. He man was arrested in Marbeach in barangay Marigondon.

Police said Cullo confessed that it was Richard who asked him to sell the jewelry.

Police conducted a follow-up operation and spotted Richard in sitio Kapilis.

Police said Richard admitted during the interrogation that he killed Flora.

Richard surrendered a bolo believed to have been used in the killing.

The suspect also turned over a pair of short pants with blood stains which he wore during the crime, police said.

Police said Richard admitted that he entered the victim’s house around 2 a.m. by detaching jalousie blades.

Richard told police that he was searching for valuables when he noticed that the victim woke up.

The suspect said he attacked the woman while she was washing dishes in the kitchen.

Richard said he smoked marijuana before the crime.

Senior Insp. Zenaido Pastorfide said they are still evaluating if they can use Cullo as a state witness.
