Quezon City man killed after making peace with neighbor

MANILA, Philippines— A sexagenarian was killed Friday afternoon in Quezon City just after he made peace with his neighbor, whose son-in-law was apparently dissatisfied with their settlement of a feud between their relatives and attacked them both, police said.

Charlie Salvador, 60, of JP Rizal Street, Sitio Uno, in Barangay Sta. Lucia, died at the Novaliches District Hospital while undergoing treatment for stab wounds in the face and body while his neighbor, Dioscoro Corpin, 44, was still confined with knife wounds at the Quezon City General Hospital.

Their attacker, Corpin’s son-in-law, Reagan Remo, fled after the incident and is the object of a police hunt.

Senior Police Officer 1 Eric Lazo  of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday inside Corpin’s house on JP Rizal Street in Sitio Uno, Barangay Sta. Lucia.

Lazo said that before the stabbing, Salvador met with Corpin to settle the differences between their feuding relatives: the elderly man’s daughter and his neighbor’s other son-in-law.

Just as the neighbors had talked things out and made peace, Remo, who was apparently discontented with the terms and was still angry over the dispute, got a knife and started attacking Salvador. He then turned his ire on his father-in-law, who had tried to pacify him. When the victims fell  bleeding on the floor, the knife-wielder fled.

The badly wounded men were taken to the nearest hospital by their neighbors but the 60-year-old victim eventually succumbed to his injuries.
