Cagayan solon bats for modern farms
Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile is pushing for a bill that he filed that seeks to modernize agriculture to bring down income disparities between the country’s rich and poor.
In a statement, Enrile cited a statement attributed to the National Statistical Coordination Board saying that “crime thrives in areas with high disparities in income.”
“Agriculture remains the main driver of our economy and many of our people depend on this sector,” his statement said. “As we increase agricultural production we, too, must increase the income of farmers,” he added.
Enrile’s proposed measure, House Bill No. 4626 or the Food for Filipinos Bill, seeks to increase farm incomes through the introduction of modern equipment. “When we remove huge income disparities, we likewise bring down crime,” he said.
