That’s a bagful of weed for “export” Down Under.

Policemen posing as bus passengers arrested a man from Tinglayan, Kalinga province, for allegedly carrying 40 bricks of dried marijuana on Thursday in Quezon City.

Cyrus Marngo, 31, was caught before he could board a bus bound for the Visayas at the Araneta terminal, according to Superintendent Ronnie Montejo of the Quezon City Police District’s Cubao station.

Upon interrogation, Marngo claimed that he was only handed the contraband by another person in Kalinga and that his job was only to pass it on to another carrier at a port in Bohol province, who would then send the bricks to New Zealand and Australia, Montejo said on Friday.

Two QCPD plainclothesmen from the Cubao station—Police Officer 3 Victor Sia and Poice Officer 1 Alrashid Albain—were on a southbound Dagupan Bus Liner when Marngo boarded the bus at Kamuning on Edsa around 11 a.m.

Montejo said his men became suspicious of Marngo because he appeared “nervous” during the ride.

The marshals tailed him when he got off in Cubao, all the way to the terminal where he approached an Eagles provincial bus. The officers then alerted a bag checker at the terminal’s entrance, who later searched the suspect’s bag and discovered the marijuana.

The confiscated marijuana weighed 4.4 kilos, according to the QCPD crime laboratory.
