Lapu-Lapu city hosts mass wedding for 115 couples

THE Lapu-Lapu City government marked Valentine’s Day by hosting the wedding of 115 couples in the City Auditorium in barangay Poblacion.

The couples were beneficiaries of the government’s ant-poverty Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps.

“This is my first time to officiate a mass wedding. I see it as very practical and am willing to do it again in the future to help couples who can’t afford the cost of a wedding,” said Mayor Paz Radaza.

The idea of holding a mass wedding for 4P’s beneficiaries came after a survey by the City Social Welfare and Development office showed that many of the beneficiaries of the government’s anti-poverty program are not legally married.

“So we suggested to Mayor Radaza the Valentine’s Day mass wedding,” said Ermelita Degamo, head of the CSWD.

Serving as sponsors were the barangay captains of Lapu-Lapu City, 4Ps personnel and Executive Judge Toribio Quiwag. /Corresondent Norman Mendoza
