MANILA, Philippines — United Nationalist Alliance coalition members only need to be guided by their conscience and “loyal” to the Filipino people, its secretary general said on Wednesday.

In a statement, UNA secretary general and Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco said the difference between the “constructive opposition” and the Liberal Party is that they would not intimidate party members who do not follow the party stand.

Tiangco pointed out that the huge crowd that greeted UNA’s senatorial bets on the first day of the campaign period was “very, very encouraging.”

He said that the crowd they drew was a “clear indicator that this former bastion of the Liberal Party is going all out for UNA in the May election.”

“We were not wrong in choosing Cebu. Maunlad ang Cebu. Mahuhusay ang mga local government officials, at matinding magpakita ng suporta at pasasalamat ang mga mamamayan (Cebu is progressive. It has competent local government officials and the people showed their strong support and we’re thankful of the Cebuanos),” said Binay.
