‘Broken-hearted’ man hangs self
Saddened by the cold treatment given to him by his crush, a man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in a tree in barangay Opao, Mandaue City at dawn yesterday.
Police said Antonio Sumalinog Jr., 26, jumped from a tree with a rope tied around his neck and the other end connected to a branch.
According to the police, Sumalinog was attracted to a 17-year-old girl. The girl, however, had been ignoring the man.
Police recovered a note that was left by the man where he expressed his frustration over the girl’s cold treatment.
Also found in the man’s cellphone was a message: “di mo ako pinansin (You snubbed me.)
Around 1:45 a.m., police said the man climbed a tree which was about 6-foot high.
Article continues after this advertisementNeighbors including the mother of the girl tried to convince the man to go down but he did not heed them.
After the leap, the victim was untied and was rushed to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where he later died./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN MENDOZA
