Tanui wins anew in cebu

KENYAN ELITE runner Willy Tanui dominated the 15-kilometer race of yesterday’s 1st Alay Takbo held at the Plaza Sugbo at the South Road Properties.

Tanui easily won over multi-awarded Cebuano runner Ian Bernido of Southwestern University (SWU) and Adonis Singson.

Tanui clocked 50 minutes and 14 seconds while Bernido came in at 51:05 for second place. Singson finished in 51:41 to finish third.

The win gave Tanui the P10,000 top prize while Bernido got P6,000 and P3,000 went to Singson.

Mary Joy Tabal, meanwhile, added another title to her massive collection after she ruled the 15k women’s race with a time of 1:01:11.

Cristy Sevellino-Tutor had to settle for second place again as she clocked 1:06:20. Joeyry Lee of the University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) was at third with a time of 01:07:17.

It was Tabal’s second title for the weekend as she also topped the 10k race of the Saint Ignatius Run last Saturday with Tutor also trailing her at second place.

Joel Delposo topped the 6k run with a time of 19:55 followed by Kenyan Abraham Messus (19:56) and Joebert Ferrolino (20:53).

Jojielyn Mae Pepito finished first in the 6k distaff side with a time of 24:58 followed by 12-year-old Lovely Fe Andrin (25:40) and Lynle Cardenas (27:00).

Erwin Carallas grabbed the top spot in the men’s 3k fun run with a time of 11:06 while Jessa Bayon-on topped the women’s side in 15:13./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
