5 fishers rescued off Cavite hours after boat sinking—Coast Guard

MANILA, Philippines—Five fishermen, whose motor boat sank last weekend off the coast of Cavite due to big waves, were rescued hours later by the crew of a passing fishing boat near Fortune island, also in the same province, according to the Philippine Coast Guard detachment in Nasugbu, Batangas.

In a report to the PCG headquarters in Manila, the Coast Guard station did not identify the rescued fishermen. But it said they are all residents of Barangay Wawa 3 in Rosario town, Cavite.

“They are also crew of the M/B Sofia, which departed Barangay Wawa 3 at around 10 a.m. last Sunday,” the report also said.

“Fortunately, the crew of a passing fishing boat, the F/B Irish Viel, owned and operated by Eduardo Solidario9, rescued the five fishermen at around 4 p.m. of the same date,” the report added.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Coast Guard station near Malacañang retrieved on Sunday the body of an unidentified woman found floating on Pasig River.

The PCG described the cadaver as a “female aged between 50 and 60 years, approximately 5 feet in height and wearing a light yellow and checkered polo shirt and black pants plus earrings, a silver necklace and a red wristband.”

“Immediately upon retrieval, the cadaver was turned over to the homicide division of Precinct 5 of the Manila police for proper disposition,” it added.
