The two police officers who were involved in a shootout in Atimonan, Quezon, on Sunday afternoon knew each other.

“They were friends and they knew each other. My husband knew Supt. Hansel Marantan,” according to the common-law wife of slain police Supt. Alfredo Consemino in an interview at the National Bureau of Investigation.

Somewhere along the way, there was a falling out, she said, and what happened in Atimonan was a “rubout and not a shootout.”

Consemino was the acting group director of the Regional Headquarters Support Group of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), while Marantan was the intelligence officer of Quezon.

She said she would make an official statement through a press conference, adding the she has a witness who knew about Marantan’s “corruption.”

“I have a witness who can say Marantan received a gold lighter worth P500,000 as a gift,” she said. “The witness is willing to testify if called,” the wife told the Inquirer.

Accompanied by Consemino’s daughter  from his first wife, the woman was at the NBI to file a complaint against the group of Marantan. She also said Consemino had provided security to Vic Siman, one of those killed in the shooting incident.

“Sir Vic always asked him to accompany him every time they go to Tignakawan because the route was a NPA-infested area,” the wife said.

The wife confirmed Siman was an owner of a security agency where Consemino was a consultant.

She also confirmed she knew Siman was carrying money. ” It was not jueteng money, but gifts for the agency’s employees,” the woman said. A police official said that lawmen seized P266,317 in cash from the armed group.
