Baculi is new head coach of GlobalPort
GLOBALPORT head honcho Mikee Romero and Junel Baculi have renewed a partnership that once dominated the SEABA and SEA Games in 2007 after the former officially announced the latter as the new head coach of the Batang Pier in the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Romero once backed the national team that won the gold in the aforementioned tournaments with Baculi manning that squad.
But now, with the Batang Pier badly needing some much-needed leadership following a disastrous campaign in the Philippine Cup that saw them finish with a woeful 1-13 (win-loss) record, Romero, in a press statement, felt that the time was right to replace former head coach Glenn Capacio.
Capacio, though, will still remain with the squad as the first assistant coach.
In the Commissioner’s Cup last year, Baculi led the Barako Bull Energy Boosters to the semis and he hopes to achieve much of the same or even more this season.
He has yet to win a title in the big leagues following a title-laden career in the defunct Philippine Basketball League. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
