Man shot dead for using firecrackers
A MAN was killed while his friend was wounded after they were shot by their neighbors who confronted them for using firecrackers on New Year’s Eve in barangay Babag 1, Lapu-Lapu City.
Edgardo Tumulak, 41, was fatally shot in the face. Jeffrey Corro, 46, was wounded in the right arm.
The suspect, Arnulfo Cavan, 39, was arrested by police after the incident.
Police said Tumulak and Cavan were using firecrackers to greet the New Year near Cavan’s house.
Irked by the noise, Cavan scolded the two men and a heated argument ensued.
At one point, Cavan drew a gun and shot his two neighbors.

Article continues after this advertisementNeighbors brought Tumulak to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he was declared dead by the attending doctor.
Recovered from the suspect were a 380 caliber pistol with two magazines and six live ammunition.
Police said Tumulak and Cavan bore grudges against each other due to unpaid debts.
Murder and frustrated homicide charges will be filed against Cavan, police said.
In a separate shooting in Lapu-Lapu City, a 19-year old man was shot and wounded by unidentified assailants who fired at group of people having a drinking session past midnight Jan. 1.
Joshua Bacalso was wounded in the right arm.
He was drinking with neighbors when two men arrived on a motorcycle arrived.
As the motorcycle slowed down, the backrider opened fire.
The assailants drove off after the attack.
No one was able to identify the assailants or jot down the motorcycle’s plate number.
Police said the incident could be a case of paregla or random violence since the victims had no known enemies in the area./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
