Binay: Leak may be in COA

MANILA, Philippines—The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay has urged Commission on Audit (COA) Chair Grace Pulido-Tan to look into the possibility that someone in her agency was leaking its reports to the media as part of a demolition campaign against Binay.

“We have it on good authority that personalities inside COA informed the media about the Friendship Suites complaint and Heidi Mendoza’s Sandiganbayan appearance in the case involving former (Makati City) Mayor Elenita Binay,” Binay’s spokesperson, Joey Salgado, said.

The COA had initiated an investigation into the 10-year-old Makati Friendship Suites project in Guadalupe.

Salgado was reacting to Tan’s statement that came out in the newspapers the other day that it was not her agency that had leaked the documents being cited in the media against Binay.

“While we respect COA’s mandate, the fact is that some personalities in COA appear to be using the agency’s authority for a political demolition job against the Vice President,” Salgado said.
