Lawmakers will skip Pacquiao Vegas fight

MANILA, Philippines — It looks like many lawmakers will not be trooping to Las Vegas, Nevada to personally witness boxing champion Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming bout with Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8.

Manila Representative Amado Bagatsing, chairman of the House committee on games and amusement, told reporters on Thursday that many lawmakers were already too busy preparing for the midterm elections in 2013. He said many of them would probably be busy working in their districts by then.

According to Bagatsing, he might not be able to personally show his support for Pacquiao in the US but was quick to add that the fight would no doubt be worth watching.

Marikina Representative Miro Quimbo and Quezon City Representative Bolet Banal echoed this stand, pointing out that they wanted to have perfect attendance at the House of Representatives.

Even Negros Occidental Representative Albee Benitez, a known supporter of the boxing champion, said that he had to be in his district during the boxing match.
