Rookie policeman dies in SRP road accident
A rookie policeman died after the motorcycle he drove was hit by a truck hauling logs at an intersection of the South Road Properties (SRP) in barangay San Isidro, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
P01 Philipp Padron of the San Nicolas Police station, was declared dead at the Talisay City District Hospital, said P01 Rosauro Pasumala of the Talisay City police.
The 30-year-old Padron, a father of three, was headed home to Dumlog, Talisay City, when the accident occurred at 11:45 p.m. last Monday.
Pasumala said the force of the collision threw off Padron .
He sustained severe injuries in the head and other parts of the body.
The truck driver identified as Edwin Algas from Sta. Ana, Barili town, surrendered to the police.

Police said Algas would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property with homicide.
Padron’s colleagues at the San Nicolas police precinct were saddened by his death.
SPO4 Reynaldo Origenes said Padron, who had been with the San Nicolas Police Station for almost a year, was a good police officer.
Origenes said Padron was assigned in the vicinity of the Taboan public market.
Padron had just finished his shift on Monday when he figured in the accident, Origenes added.
Origenes said he and other fellow policemen plan to extend financial assistance to Padron’s family.
In Mandaue City, five laborers were injured after the trailer truck they rode in rammed a concrete fence past 11 p.m. last Monday.
Injured were Leopoldo Cardines Jr., 30, the driver of the trailer truck, and his four passengers Japeth Pardillo, 26; Arnel Rivera, 33; Tony Mahinay, 29; and John Noel Rivera.
They were rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for treatment.
Police said the Isuzu trailer truck , which was pulling a 20-foot container van, was speeding along M. C. Briones Street in barangay Jagobiao when Cardines lost control of the wheel.
SPO4 Apolinario Niez, traffic investigator of the Mandaue City police, said the truck swerved to the right portion of the road until it rammed a concrete fence and an electric post owned by the Visayan Electric Co.
