SilkAir’s charity race set Nov 25

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airways will venture into the popular sport of running with a fund-raising fun run on Nov. 25 at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

SilkAir’s race will benefit the Kapamilya Blood Donation Campaign of ABS-CBN in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross. It is also in line with SilkAir’s 20th anniversary.

The race will cover 20 kilometers significant to its 20th anniversary. During yesterday’s official press conference at the Cebu Grand Hotel, SilkAir Philippines’ Singaporean General Manager Chandran Menon, said that he is very excited to hit the road to help ABS-CBN’s blood donation campaign.

“We decided to organize a running event because it is a very popular and its easy to gather participants for this kind of activity, We hope that we can come-up with a thousand runners because it will surely help our charity cause,” said Menon.

Also in attendance yesterday were SilkAir’s Administration  Officer Debra Luza, Head of Accounts Administration Jasmine Sollano and race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE).

The 20k event will also have a Masters category which is exclusive to runners 50-years-old and above. The run will also have shorter distances: 10k, 5k and 3k.

Menon said that if they can draw a large number of runners, they might make the race an annual activity.

Overnight stays good for two persons in Cebu’s best hotels namely Shangri-la Mactan, Plantation Bay, Raddison Blu, Parklane International Hotel and Cebu Grand Hotel will be raffled off during the race while big cash prizes will be given to the top three winners in the 3k and 5k divisions. The top five winners in the 10k and the top 10 in the 20k will win cash and medals. All 20k finishers will also receive medals. A round trip ticket to Singapore will also be raffled off.

Registration fee for the 3k is P250 and P300 for the 5k. The 10k event has a registration fee of P400 while the 10k fetches P550. These are inclusive of singlet, bib and post-race refreshments.
