Teen with stage 3 lymphoma needs P50k for surgery
Despite his illness, Christian Jake Bugnon continues to go to school.
The boy who turned 13 years old only last Sunday was diagnosed six years ago with stage 3 anaplastic large cell lymphoma. He is currently a Grade 5 student of Bagong Barrio Elementary School in Caloocan City.
“To give way to his weekly checkup, monitoring and chemotherapy every Thursday, the school allows him to attend classes only on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday is supposed to be a cooling down period,” his mother Zenaida told the Inquirer.
She said that doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center in Quezon City are carefully studying the prospect of operating on the boy because one of the tumors that need to be removed is near his heart.
But if it will benefit their son, Zenaida and her husband, Jonathan, a tricycle driver, are willing to take the risk. “The operation, however, will cost us P50,000. I am appealing to your readers for help because we are already finding it hard to cope with our son’s weekly chemotherapy expenses of P3,000 for medicines alone,” she said.
