/ 06:54 AM October 19, 2012

THE West Negros University Mustangs eked past the University of Iloilo, 84-82, to make their way to the Sweet 16 in the Visayas regional championship of the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) the other day in Dumaguete City.

The Mustangs nabbed the slot and earned the chance to face the champion in the Mindanao regionals on Nov. 13 here in Cebu.

The winner of that match will get to face the winner of the game between the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) runners-up University of the Visayas Green Lancers and third placers University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars on Nov. 14.

The winner of that match will then take on the newly-crowned Cesafi champions Southwestern University Cobras for the Southern Islands Championship and the right to advance to the Final Four of the PCCL on Nov. 15.

The other squads already in the Sweet 16 are led by reigning UAAP champions Ateneo Blue Eagles and runners-up University of Santo Tomas along with the National University Bulldogs and the La Salle Green Archers. The NCAA is being represented by last year’s PCCL champions San Sebastian, San Beda, Letran and the University of Perpetual Help. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
