Cop, government engineer in Cagayan nabbed by PDEA for alleged drug trafficking

MANILA, Philippines—A policeman and a government engineer in Cagayan province were arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after an entrapment operation.
The alleged pushers were identified by PDEA director general Jose Gutierrez Jr. on Tuesday as Juanito Peralta, 46, a police officer assigned at the Cabugao Police Station, and Sonny Butel, 37, an engineer working as planning officer in Apayao, Cagayan.
They were apprehended after they sold a plastic sachet of shabu or methamphetamine to undercover PDEA agents in a buy-bust operation led by PDEA Regional Office two director Juvenal Azurin in Barangay L. Aviento, Gattaran, Cagayan, Sunday evening, Gutierrez said.
Agents seized from the suspects one unit of Racal motorcycle, three mobile phones, and the P6,000 marked money used in the operation, Gutierrez added.
In a separate buy-bust operation on the same day, PDEA had arrested two more suspects identified as Moisel Louie Castro, 39, and Alfred dela Cruz, 31, in Barangay Lamo, Dupax del Norte, Nueva Vizcaya after they sold three sachets of shabu to undercover agents.
Article continues after this advertisementAll four suspects are detained in Tuguegarao City’s Camp Adduru jail facility and will face charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, Gutierrez said.
