Pepito spotted over coastal waters of Caramoan in Camarines Sur

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau said Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) continues to move west-northwest over the coastal waters of Camarines Sur in the early hours of Sunday.

Pepito was last spotted over the coastal waters of Caramoan, Camarines Sur, based on the 2 a.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center with gustiness of up to 280 km/h.

Pagasa said the super typhoon was moving west-northwestward at 10 km/h.

“Pepito will move west northwestward over the waters north of Camarines Provinces (with a landfall or close approach over Calaguas Islands not ruled out) until this morning,” said Pagasa.

“It will then pass close or over Polillo Islands between this morning and noon, before making landfall over northern Quezon or central or southern Aurora between this noon and afternoon,” the state weather bureau added.

It will then cross the northern portion of Central Luzon and the Southern portion of Northern Luzon along the upland areas of Sierra Madre, Caraballo, and Cordillera Central between Sunday afternoon and evening.

After that, Pepito will emerge over the coastal waters of Pangasinan or La Union Sunday night or early morning of Monday, November 18.

Pepito may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday morning or afternoon.

Pagasa noted that Pepito will either remain as a super typhoon or slightly weaken as a typhoon over Aurora.

It also said “significant weakening” will occur during its passage over mainland Luzon on Monday. However, it will likely remain a typhoon throughout its passage over mainland Luzon.
