SWU routs SHS-AdC, logs 2nd straight win

The young volley belles of the Southwestern University are reigning supreme in pool A as they notched their second straight victory after demolishing the Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus in straight sets in the second day of action in the Central Visayas eliminations of the 10th Shakey’s Girls’ V-League yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

The host school started the ball rolling late Thursday evening as they downed the University of Cebu, 25-12, 25-20. Then, they captured their second win in as many games yesterday and they did it in dominating form as they held SHS-Hijas without a single point in the first set, 25-0, before finishing off the match, 25-8.

The win put SWU at the top of pool A with a 2-0 (win-loss) mark.

Reigning champions Pajo National High School were still playing their first game of the tournament late last night.

In other results in the same pool, UC handed Abellana National High School its first loss of the tournament with a 25-16, 25-21 defeat.

In pool B, the visiting spikers of Silliman University raced off to a 3-0 start in the standings after defeating the University of San Carlos and PAREF Southcrest.

Silliman downed USC in a thrilling encounter, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19. Southcrest was next to fall, 25-13, 25-9, but not before winning over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in three sets, 25-14, 24-26, 28-26.

USC bounced back and defeated the SHS-AdC, 25-6, 25-9.

The elimination round ends today with a heavy nine-game schedule slated to start at 8 a.m.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the crossover semifinals, which will be played Sunday morning. The finals will be in the afternoon with the champion advancing to the Tournament of Champions slated Jan. 22 to 26, 2013 in Manila.
