Man killed while warning kids about oncoming train

MANILA, Philippines—A pedicab driver was killed after being hit by a train in Manila early Wednesday, police said.

Sergio Salazar, 38, got ran over by a Philippine National Railways train along Balic-balic in Sampaloc, Manila around 7 a.m., said Senior Police Officer 1 Valente Alverez of the Manila Police District station 4.

Investigation revealed that Salazar was walking along the southbound lane of the railway when he prompted children about the incoming train. But when he was already about to leave, he failed to notice the incoming train from the northbound lane.

The investigator said a guard tried to call Salazar, but was too late.

Salazar was rushed to the Ospital ng Sampaloc but declared dead on arrival, Alverez said.
