Rains ahead for Metro Cebu

TYPHOON “Lawin” left the country but a three- hour rain slowed traffic and congested downtown Cebu City yesterday.

Streets of Mabini, Jakosalem and Lopez Jaena were flooded and prevented residents from boarding  jeepneys.

Floodwaters rose ankle-deep at about 4 p.m.

Alfredo Quiblat, Mactan chief of the state weather bureau Pagasa, said the rain was caused by localized thunderstorms that broke out in “Lawin’s” wake.

He said moderate to heavy rain will fall over  Cebu in the next few days.

Coastal waters are moderate to strong due to the southwest monsoon.

Metro Cebu will experience light to moderate southwesterly winds, Quiblat said.

The province will  experience partly cloudy weather with brief rainshowers and thunderstorms.

As of 4 a.m.  yesterday the eye of typhoon “Lawin” was  610 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

Alvin Santillana, operations chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC), advised Cebu City residents in flood and landslide prone areas to  take precautions and evacuate as soon as possible. Correspondent Jessa Chrisna Marie J. Agua and Contributor Joy Cherry Quito
