New sites eyed for 2 M’daue police stations

Two government-owned lots are being looked into as possible locations of two Mandaue police stations whose current locations are considered unsafe.

City Administrator James Abadia said there is a vacant lot near the flyover in barangay Mandaue where the Centro police station could be built.

The Centro police station currently occupies the second floor of the old Mandaue public market. The building has been declared uninhabitable by City Engineering Office.

Water utilities in the building have been cut off.

The city government had proposed to transfer the precinct to the new public market.

Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, outgoing chief of the Mandaue police, turned the proposal down since the area was not easily accessible to the public.

Abadia said there is also a space under the Marcelo B. Fernan bridge where the Opao police precinct could be transferred.

The building of the current location of Opao police station stood on top of a waterway which poses danger in case of floods.

Abadia said the city still has to ask permission from the bridge management board headed by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Abadia said he will bring up the matter to the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC).

“We have to consult the police since they know what’s the good location for police precincts,” Abadia said.
