Cebu City Marathon 2013

/ 09:50 AM September 25, 2012

I wonder what’s taking the Cebu Executive Runners Club too long to officially announce the call for runners to the 2013 Cebu City Marathon.

Since its debut in 2010, the Cebu City Marathon is traditionally held on the second Sunday of January and is part of the official calendar of activities of the annual Sinulog festivities. Still, CERC should make an announcement sooner rather than later.

First, the traditional schedule of every second Sunday of January is known only among members of the running community in Cebu and those from out of town who have joined previous editions of the the Cebu City Marathon.

Second, there is the matter of training especially for those who wish to make the Cebu City Marathon their debut marathon. First timers who wish to train properly for their first full marathon should devote at least six (6) months. Without a formal announcement from the CERC is hard to commit to a training schedule for the Cebu City Marathon in January 2013.

FEATURED STORIES

Third, logistics and billeting could be a problem if the race schedule is announced late and discourage out-of-town participants from coming over. The CCM schedule falling on the week of the Sinulog festivities means affordable hotel accommodations would be hard to come by as even the expensive hotels get booked six months before the Sinulog in January.

I still think the Cebu City Marathon is one of the best, if not the best organized full marathon in the country. If I were to run only one marathon a year, CCM would be it. But CERC needs to commit and announce a definite race date for, even as early as the moment the first marathoner crosses the finishline in January 2013 assuring CCM’s die hard fans of a 2014 edition.
