Elderly woman suffers broken hip in QC snatching incident
MANILA, Philippines–An elderly woman suffered a hip fracture after she was allegedly pushed by two robbers, who snatched her necklace at a bus terminal in Cubao, Quezon City early Sunday morning.
Teodora Prudencio, 64, must undergo surgery following the incident along New York Street in Barangay E. Rodriguez at 7 a.m. Sunday, the authorities said.
In a report, Superintendent Ramon Pranada of the Cubao police station said they were able to arrest one of the suspects, Noli Felizardo, 28, for serious physical injuries.
Prudencio told police that she was about to board a bus when the two men suddenly appeared.
The suspects then held the woman in a choke-hold to snatch her necklace then pushed her with such force that her hip broke.
A concerned security guard at the bus terminal informed the police, who immediately launched a manhunt to find the suspects, one of whom was described by the victim as “lanky” and the other as “dark-skinned.”
Article continues after this advertisementFelizardo was later arrested at a market along Edsa and was positively identified by the elderly woman.
Article continues after this advertisementPrudencio’s P5,000 necklace, however, was not recovered from the arrested suspect, Pranada said.
Police were still looking for the other suspect.
