MANILA, Philippines – A Quezon City councilman has proposed a commendation and the grant of financial assistance to a graduating cadet of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) who was shot last month by a robber whose heist on a passenger jeepney he foiled.

Fourth district Councilor Marvin Rillo has proposed a council resolution commending and extending financial assistance to Cadet First Class Alfonso Aviles “for his selfless deed of trying to prevent a jeepney robbery in Fairview, Quezon City.”

He further said, “The selfless and heroic deed of Cadet 1st Class Alfonso Aviles deserves to be recognized and acknowledged, and as appreciation of the same, the City must not fail to grant him financial assistance as a token of gratitude from the City government.”

Rillo proposed that financial assistance of P30,000 be extended to Aviles from the 2012 annual budget of the Office of the City Mayor or from any available funds in the city treasury.

Aviles had been shot on August 25 when he attempted to wrest a pistol away from an armed robber who declared a hold-up on a Cubao-bound passenger jeepney at the corner of Regalado and Mindanao Avenues in Barangay Greater Lagro.

While Aviles saved other PUJ passengers from being victimized, the lone suspect was able to grab the PMA bull ring of the wounded cadet before fleeing.

The graduating PMA cadet remains comatose at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center while his shooter remains at large.
