MANDAUE CITY—At least 200 families were displaced when a fire struck a village here, destroying more than 100 houses on Monday.

SFO3 Roy Garcia, investigator of the Mandaue City Fire Department, said the fire started past 8 p.m. and was put out about 10 p.m.

Garcia said investigators were checking claims made by some villagers that the fire was caused by an unattended candle in one of the houses.
