Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue karatekas bag 12 golds

Team AKC Inc-Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue City Karatedo team came up with a total of 17 medals in the recently concluded AKC Regional Karatedo Championships held at the Insular Square Mandaue City over the weekend.

Among the 17, AKC Lapu-lapu/Mandaue got 12 golds in the competition that was participated by 12 clubs.

Kent Juban clinched three gold medals for AKC Lapu/Mandaue after winning the 65kg-below, open weight boys kumite event and the team kumite with Jaime Sumalinog, who also won the 60kg-below title.

Junjun Pancho bagged two gold medals after ruling the 50kg-below and 55kg-below categories of the kumite event.

Siblings Ayanna Lein and Rafael Vidal, the children of head coach and trainer Reynan Vidal, topped the 5-6 years old and 7-8 years old kumite events, respectively.

Siblings Sheen and Daine Ponce also got golds in the 14-16 years old and 17-18 years old categories, respectively.

Jane Marphe Famador added another gold for AKC Lapu/Mandaue after dominating the 60kg-below kumite event while another gold was contributed by Regine Morales after placing first in the kata (form) event in the 18-above category.

The other medals for the team was from Sumalinog, who won a silver in the open weight boys kumite along with Joesie Francisco (60kg below boys kumite), Anjilo Sadili (50kg below boys kumite) and Cristop Sumalinog (17-18 boys kumite). Lovely Caliwag also bagged a bronze in the 14-16 girls kumite event.

ASK Talisay finished with seven gold medals while SKS Cebu got six golds. JKA Talisay City also had six gold medals.
