Monserat lifts JRU over Mapua
THE JOSE RIZAL University Heavy Bombers banked on Ralph Monserat in the endgame to score a 63-60 win over the Mapua Cardinals in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.
It was forward John Lopez, though, who carried the team all-game long in the wake of the injury suffered by their top star Nate Matute in the third canto.
Lopez had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists as JRU improved their record to 8-3 (win-loss).
Monserat scored on a putback while Ivan Camasura shot in a three-pointer that gave the Bombers the lead for good, 61-60, with 2:05 left. The Cardinals were not able to score the rest of the way. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
